We all get enough of politics without meaning to, so it follows that you don’t need to bring it up when it’s not necessary. And a lot of the time, it isn’t, for example at a baby shower or a birthday party or really anything that’s supposed to be celebrating one person, not creating opportunities for discourse. Celebrations like these are a respite from the challenges of the real world. We put on party hats, slice up cake, and pretend like Sarah is the most important woman in the world just because she turned 28. It’s a beautiful thing that we do for each other. Weddings are especially that way. You’ve all gathered together and put on your Sunday best so you can pay respects to a couple of lovebirds.
